Robotic Polyurea Application
Equipment - Development,
Design, Engineering and
Manufacturing
Through an agreement with
Louisiana Tech University on behalf of the Trenchless Technology Center
(“TTC”), Innovative has formed a Louisiana-based
sister corporation which will design, develop, market and implement
robotics preparation/application equipment for the installation of
polyurea linings on in-place pipelines and conduits.
A three-part
agreement involving 1) purchase of existing prototype equipment and
transportation units, 2) loan of operational equipment essential for
R&D efforts (as specifically applicable to the development
package) and 3) research collaboration in the form of joint proposals
to various agencies such as EPA, DOT, AWWARF and others was executed.
Essentially, Innovative will manufacture application equipment, TTC
will perform testing, and intellectual property will belong to one, the
other, or both depending on the specifics of the research or product
design completed. Innovative and TTC will jointly pursue federal, state
and private funding to further develop the technology.
Innovative
has invested in an extensive manufacturing facility at their Brea, CA
Headquarters staffed by a team of polyurea, spray equipment, fluid
technology and electrical/mechanical engineering experts. Contact
Innovative for more information on this exciting new advancement in
polyurea application technology.

It
should be stressed that this is not purely a research agreement nor
is the project in an experimental phase. Equipment
is fully operational at this time with completed units in the field,
and manufacturing
of additional robotic application units for various applications is
underway. Here are various units in testing and operation:
Units
above
have been deployed in
trenchless technology polyurea lining of pipe ranging from 24" I.D. to
144" I.D. Each substrate design, shape and orientation requires a
different spray head ranging
from proprietary high-speed application heads to adaptations of
standard hand-held guns, all with precise dimensions, shapes and ranges
of motion specific to the substrate configuration. Key data processing
components
are custom-made flowmeters for monitoring material movement/pressure
and data
recorders that offer real-time
reporting of every possible variable. Should rare equipment issues
arise, fail-safe systems shut down application to reduce repairs or
touch-up. Constant-speed retraction systems control film thickness,
something programmed by engineers at monitors prior to application.
Innovative's
unique position as recognized experts in the specification,
application, development and deployment of polyurea systems covering a
wide variety of installations allow us to lead the industry into this
exciting new specialization. The revolutionary design and
implementation of robots in pipe and culvert restoration will have
far-reaching benefits, as the near-elimination of excavation (and
related costs and inconvenience) will allow much needed repair and
restoration to an aging infrastucture. Restoration has been desperately
needed but cost prohibitive, and this technological advancement will
finally put severe needs within reach.

technology.
